Juicy Campus: A Shining Beacon of Free Speech or Outlet For Abusive Ignorance

I am a patriot. Being a patriot also means that I support free speech. And since I support free speech, I find myself drawn sites like Juicy Campus. Their mission statement reads: “We were founded on August 1, 2007 with the simple mission of enabling online anonymous free speech on college campuses.”

Juicy Campus

Right on.

It seems like an invaluable source of unbiased college campus information. Until you actually start reading what people are writing.

Here’s a smattering of topics:

-Sluttiest Girls at [insert college name here], Hottest Freshman,

-Extra Toe: An informative topic outing names of people known to have extra “secret” appendages.

-Too Many [insert race here] on Campus

-[insert name] Has STD’s

The site has turned into something that lacks anything of substance. At least it continues to stand by its pledge to allow 100% uncensored free speech. Several campuses across the country are petitioning to have the site banned. The site also finds itself under investigation by authorities in New Jersey for comments admitting to abuse including rape.

I don’t anticipate the site shutting down any time soon even though it’s turned into nothing more than an outlet for absurdity. It’s all part of the cost of living in a country that supplies it’s citizens free speech.

Stephen King: If You Don’t Read, You’re Going to Iraq

In a wave of ignorance, famed horror novelist Stephen King inserted foot in mouth:

I don’t want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don’t, then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq, I don’t know, something like that. It’s, it’s not as bright. So, that’s my little commercial for that.

Sorry, Stephen. Joining the Army and going to Iraq isn’t necessarily the fate of retarded monkeys. This holder of a B.A. English and Iraq veteran proves otherwise. That’s my public service ad to you.
