My theory as to why Bashir lost? It’s simply a matter of food. Hummus vs. sushi. I’ll be the first to admit that the Unites States has shit hummus. Seriously, we have no clue how to do it properly.
On the other hand, there’s gotta be at least a dozen amazing sushi restaurants in L.A. alone.
An oversimplification? Maybe. But never underestimate the subconscious power of food.

Stylistically, Waltz With Bashir is really awesome. Too bad a self serving preachy storyline had to ruin the artistic appeal of the film. People are tired of anti war films. Even Left wing Jews haters (lots of them self loathing) are tired of anti war films. And that is saying lots indeed.
Had that style been used for a pro war film (like an action film like Beowulf or the 300 which used a similar but not exactly the same style as this film) it would have won hands down. It's not the 1960s after all.
Israel really does need to put out more action type movies where the good guys go in enemy terrorist to avenge some terrorist action.
But it seems that when Israeli filmmakers make war films they always have to portray the Israeli soldier negatively.
It reminds me of what someone once said about the movie "Inglorious Bastards."
"Inglorious Bastards", in a nutshell, focuses on the escapades of eight Jewish-American soldiers who are parachuted behind enemy lines and ordered by their commanding officer to “git me 100 Nazi scalps”.
Of course, this would have to be made by a Gentile. A Jewish filmmaker would have the soldiers scalp some Nazis and then agonize over the moral implications of their actions for six hours, rather than getting on with the important business of scalping more Nazis.
The Indians know how to make patriotic movies about war. Sure leave out the dance music but emulate the rest.

There's a lot of good movies that Israel could make since they have such an evil enemy right up next to them.
India does it all the time with Pakistan.
Some good movie where the good Israeli is behind enemy lines blowing things up and avenging terrorist acts. You can even have your politicians in the movie being bad guys as well and be angry that he is "disobeying orders".

The Mossad Chief "HIS JOB". If you did yours we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with.
(at the end of the movie he could go kill the politician after finding out that he was in league with the terrorist).
Betrayed by his own government.
Left for dead.
But, this one man is about to do what the whole Israeli army hasn't!
He is going to get Justice!
One man against the Hamas.
One man against his own corrupt politicians.
No, he isn't G-d. For G-d has mercy. And he won't!
It is time for an Israeli Action hero like none other.

And, he doesn't go around whinnying about regretting killing afterwards either. He knew he did what needed to be done.
That's right, he is Israel's greatest weapon. He is JEW WITHOUT GUILT.
But what happens when he finds Israeli's own politicians collaborating with the very enemy who killed his family?
See, a new type of Israeli hero. One that doesn't bore you for hours by going about with moral conniption fits about how guilty he feels about killing the bad guy.
