Patriot Missive Top 5 Election Web Tools

Lifehacker made a great post a few days ago listing their top 10 web tools for the election. With only a few weeks left before the big day, I wanted to pare down their list to the best of the best. (Because who wants to juggle 10 election tools, eh?)

Here’s my top 5 election tools for 2008:

5. Google Labs “In Quotes“:

Google Labs has rolled out with an incredibly handy feature for the news blogger. The site allows you to compare the words of two politicians side-by-side. (Or, head-to-head as it may be.)

The default politicians are the American Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain but they also provides 20 other political figures to choose from.

You can search for quotes from topics such as “Iraq”, “Energy”, “Education”, and “Immigration”. You can choose your own key word too and Google will pull quotes directly from Google News articles.

It’s not just restricted to U.S. politicians either! They provide the option to change the “Edition” to Canada, India, UK, or customize the search for a specific person.

Hint: In the “Custom” mode, type the first initial of the person’s name in the “Quotes by” box and Google will toggle a list of names to chose from like Al Franken or Ehud Olmert.

4.  Twitter’s Election 2008

If you use Twitter (and I know a lot of you do), you may have noticed a new feature on the top of your Twitter screen.  When you click on the “Election 2008″ button, Twitter filters all messages pertaining to the election live!

The best part of this feature is that you can filter between candidates.

3.  YouTube’s You Choose ‘08

Don’t deny the power of YouTube.  Get your funny political skits or the latest candidate speeches at YouTubes election central.  It’s all about convenience, people.

2.  Don’t be gullible.  Go to factcheck.org first.

The most important thing about factcheck.org is that it’s non-partisan.  That’s all you need to know.
