Joining the long list of kids who exhibit behavior that seems to go firmly against the attributes their parents seek to portray to the world as a representation of their family and their beliefs, there’s pregnant 17 year old Bristol Palin, daughter of Republican VIce Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. As-of-yet-unmarried and still a minor, some would see this as a potential problem for the Republicans, easy to target and make issue of.
Much in the way that Dick Cheney’s lesbian daughter Mary was an example when the issue of gay marriage was being shot down by Republicans left right and center.
George W. Bush’s daughters were quite the heavy partiers for a time there- much like their pops was in his younger days. No shock there. But Dubbya seemed quite at odds with his father George H.W. Bush’s past as slightly more straight-laced, conservative, and successful.
But before anyone can speculate on how the Palin’s are taking it and how it will be spun, too late…
They’re taking it just fine, and it actually plays well into Palin’s political and ethical stances as a well pronounced pro-lifer.
The only people who are really seeming to make a big issue of it are certain bloggers and rumor millers who are adding it to the as-yet-unproven but relatively feasible rumor that Sarah Palin’s last child was actually her daughter’s child that the family covered up. As for whether the Democratic Party candidates are planning to jump on any part of this story, Obama has come out to say that families are off limits, and as long as both candidates and their representatives stick to that line of thinking- don’t plan on seeing any more about this story, or other’s like it typed up here by me either. Well, you know, after this one that is. I mean, unless there’s something really newsworthy.
UPDATE 5:20 a.m. : Daily Kos post removed… but I’ve resurrected it.
It should be noted that the Daily Kos link about Sarah Palin’s new baby actually being her daughter’s baby appears to have been removed from the Kos websites. I was able to capture the cache of it anyway (including comments) and have linked it appropriatly through my server here.
