With the House finally drawing up and passing their version of the latest surveillance bill that updates FISA 1978 to keep up with modern technology, still letting Big Brother keep a close watch over us all “for our safety” while also beating back Bush’s calls for granting telecommunications firms retroactive immunity for cooperation in past warrantless wiretapping, now it’s time for all these hard workers to take a little break. Though, the Senate version is different… which means really nothing has gotten done other than further stalling of processes to really get some things inacted to both protect us from the terrorists, and our government. So… way to go guys.
Of course, I suppose someone has to contribute to making up the just about half of all Americans who still get to take vacations. The other half (give or take) of working Americans don’t go on vacation, or even take sick days as often as they’re supposedly supposed to, due to feelings of falling behind at work, or fear that leaving things undone can jepordize their jobs. Leaving things undone while going off on vacation can get you fired? Really? Hear that Congress?
On top of that, we can’t forget our friends overseas who are stuck with extended tours of duty and repeated tours overseas with no real end in sight. I bet a vacation for them might be nice. Leave things undone over there? Who cares, we leave things undone in our own country. Hey, how’s that recession going?
Maybe I’m a little disgusted by how much time our elected officials seem to be able to use to NOT work, when our country has so much work that needs to be done. I’d gladly sit in some room and argue and hash out agreements all day every day if it meant that maybe my friends, family, and fellow Americans could have a little more safety, security, and faith in their country. But I guess that’s just me, what do I know?
