Because everyday there’s something going on- here’s some news for you to oggle today!

Richardson is done.  Making him the latest Democrat to drop out of the race.  It’s pretty much down to Obama, Edwards, and Clinton.  Actually, it is just down to those three.

Speaking of which- Kerry has just given his endorsement to Obama.  He’s no Chuck Norris, but…

2 female hostages were released in Columbia today, and while the U.S. is happy about it- they’re not about to give all the credit where it’s due

The United States grudgingly acknowledged Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s role in freeing two women hostages in Colombia on Thursday but made clear it was not about to ask his help to free three Americans there.

U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey warmly welcomed the release of the two women held for years in Colombia’s jungles by Marxist rebels but avoided praising the leftist Chavez, an outspoken critic of the United States who has described U.S. President George W. Bush as the devil.

Come on all, whether you like the guy or not, he did help out, and could continue to do so with the above mentioned 3 hostages.  So calling Dubbya the devil is a bit harsh, but, you know… who hasn’t made megalomaniacal statements of hatred and disgust in the heat of the moment?

Speaking of Satan, erm… Prez Bush, he’s been getting a mixed reaction to his arrival in the Middle East.

Palestinian police were taking no chances in Ramallah.  Hundreds deployed all over the city to break up any protests that might develop during Mr. Bush’s visit, only the second visit by a U.S. President to the Palestinian territories.

Opinions were varied in Ramallah about Mr. Bush’s visit.  Many people said they did not want to comment, but two men who did, while declining to give their names, had widely divergent opinions.

”I think Bush is a good President,” one man said.  “Yes, he is a man of peace and he is welcome to the Middle East.  Slowly, step by step, he will bring peace.   I think he is a good president… He is a good president and he is welcome any time.”

”I do not agree, I mean George Bush is the President of war,” said another man. “He destroyed Iraq.  He gave Israel arms to burn Lebanon, and for eight years he gave Israel the right to kill and confiscate land and build settlements here.”

Well, at least differing oppinions have been shown the same courtesies we enjoy here in the West with respect to freedom of speech and assemblage.

A morning curfew kept Ramallah residents off the streets while Mr. Bush met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, but by midday many began venturing out.  A heavy police presence stopped protests from developing, a fact that bothered Khaldoun Barghouti, the foreign editor of the Palestinian newspaper Al Hayat al Jedidi.

“The Palestinian people are enlightened now, and they know it is their right to express their opinion by welcoming Bush or by saying he is not welcome here,” he said.  “It is their freedom.  In Jerusalem, the Israelis demonstrated against Bush and their leaders, and nobody prevented them.”

Or not?

And while we’re on the topic of differenting oppinions and versions of events- hey, did you hear about the Navy Warships that were terrified by the Iranian Speedboats?  Well apparently there’s now many versions of the video bouncing around the net, some with voices “mashed up” over the video itself adding a layer of threat to the brief standoff.  Of course, there are discrepencies with the audio track, such as the fact that it’s just too clean to have come from one of the ships.  Though Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he’s sure that it’s an accurate representation of what happened.  For all the various accounts, just google or youtube it, and you’re sure to be saturated with more versions of this story that you know what to do with, I know I was.

That should keep you busy the rest of the day.  heh heh heh…
