At least… that’s what the 97 page guide released by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office would have you believe.
There’s a pink doll stroller that, according to the “2007 Safe Shopping Guide,” can sever a child’s finger tip.
And the “Evil Eye” light set, a pair of novelty eyeballs that the guide says contain kerosene.
A remote control airplane, it points out, can explode near the user’s head. Of course the booklet contains hundreds of toys coated in lead paint, including Thomas the Tank Engine trains and sets of patriotic-colored toy drums.
Maybe it’s just me… but didn’t kids used to climb trees tall as houses, ride bikes without helmets, play with sticks and pretend they were swords and/or guns while playing war in the woods behind the house?
Richard Singh, 41, a father of two from St. Charles, said the attorney general’s consumer guide would be helpful.
“It’s hard to know what’s safe these days,” Singh said. “I try to follow what’s recalled, but it seems like every day, there’s more.”
That’s because everyday there IS more. There’s always going to be someone who gets hurt mishandling something, or playing rough, or just through sheer random chance of mishap. Just face the fact that ANYTHING can kill you, your kids, your dog, your Aunt Ethel, and whoever else you may be spending every paranoid waking moment flipping out about. And everytime someone gets hurt, you’re going to hear about it, read about it, and then worry about it.
I have to quote George Carlin here- “The kid who eats the most marbles doesn’t grow up to have kids of their own.”

Amen!!! I didn't have a helmet when I learned to ride a bike…granted that's not saying much, but I am able to speak coherently and read at a level average for my age.
Let's blame China…what the hell for? It's our companies that outsource for cheap labor and cheap parts…it's our fault.
As for the f'in parents….pay attention to your child!! Tell them no and teach them not to put things in their mouth and they might just survive their first few years in the world!
P.S. I agree with Carlin…the gene pool needs some thinning out anyway. Let natural selection take it's course otherwise it's time to throw a little bleach in!
