Brace yourself for the stampede of Oprah followers (who will be from here on out referred to as “Oprahites”) that have, overnight, endowed themselves with a never before seen sense of political concern. Their leader, Oprah Winfrey, has taken the helm of the Obama campaign. With the most influential woman (and arguably, person) in the world at his side, Obama’s advantage over the other candidates can potentially be monumental.
But most importantly, Obama is challenging a large base of female voters who were naturally leaning towards Clinton as their heroine. (Let’s not deny that gender voting exists out there, people.) Not to mention, the dual power Oprah wields with both gender and race. I suspect there are quite a few Oprahites who saw Clinton as their BFF (best friend forever). But Oprah is their BFF too, right? And she’s telling them to vote for Obama?
“Dr. King dreamed the dream. We get to vote that dream into reality by supporting a man who knows not just who we are but who we can be,” she told the crowd.
Oh what’s a housewife to do?
